Vision and Values

In the book of John chapter 15, Jesus begins to teach those who would be followers of him about the intimate relationship between God the Father and himself. Then he invites those who desire into this relationship with God through the Son Jesus Christ. Jesus goes on to say in John 15:5,  "I am the vine (Jesus) and you are the branches. If a person remains in me and I in them, they will bear much fruit. Apart from me, you are unable to do anything.

These Scriptures have shaped our vision at Sonoma Valley Community Church  which is To Know the living God Intimately, To Grow together in the transforming grace of Jesus Christ; and TO SHOW God's love through the power of the Holy Spirit with our whole lives.

  • To Know

We desire to "know" the living God intimately. Throughout the whole bible we encounter the word "know" which is one way to describe our relationship with God. Biblically knowing someone  involves all of us, our heart, mind, soul, and strength. It is based in real life with a real God in our real lives. So it is our desire to know God in an ever increasing way.

  • To Grow

We desire to "grow" together in the transforming grace of Jesus Christ. Growing to be more Christ-like in the way we live and interact with one another.  We celebrate the practical way that the grace of Jesus is continually affecting and transforming our lives as a community of faith. This is done as we journey together.

  • To Show

We desire to "show" God's love through the power of the Holy Spirit with our whole lives. The showing of God's love is an overflow from the love that we have received from God and extend to others. Like Jesus, this is done in both our deeds and our words. We know that it is God's life and power through the Holy Spirit that enables us to show this tangible love. This love is extended to our neighbors that are both across the street and around the world.
